📖 Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV)
“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
Many read this verse thinking that the Bible separates the soul and the spirit as if they were two things that are easy to distinguish. But that is not the main point.
The point is much deeper.
The Word of God has the ability to enter into the most intimate part of the human being and discern what you yourself cannot.
The soul is your mind, your emotions, and your will. It is where you think, feel, and decide.
The spirit is the part of you that connects with God—where the new birth happens and where the Holy Spirit bears witness.
The problem is that many times we confuse one with the other.
We say, “I feel peace,” but it may simply be emotional relief (soul), not divine direction (Spirit).
We cry in the presence of God, but that can be an emotional experience, not necessarily a spiritual transformation. We cry because the soul is wounded, not as an act of worship to God.
This is where the Word comes in.
The Bible does not just tell you what you did…
it reveals why you did it.
The Word separates:
• what is born from your emotions (soul) vs. what comes from God (Spirit)
• what you desire vs. what God wants
• the human vs. the spiritual
Many believers live guided by the soul, thinking they are being led by the Spirit. And that is where deception begins.
That is why we need the Word daily.
Because only it can show you where you end…
and where God begins.
