The devil imitates, but only God originates.
“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” — Genesis 1:1 (KJV)
From the first verse of Scripture, God defines Himself as Creator. The Hebrew word bara’ (בָּרָא) — “to create out of nothing” — is used only for God. Humanity may “form” (yatsar) or “make” (asah), but never bara’. Only God brings something from nothing.
This distinction exposes the devil’s limits. Satan cannot create — he only corrupts. Jesus called him “a liar and the father of it” (John 8:44). Even his own existence proves his dependence: “Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created” (Ezek. 28:15). The enemy takes what God made good and distorts it — beauty into vanity, love into lust, worship into idolatry. Evil is not creative; it is perverted creation.
When the Church Fears What God Allows
Throughout history, the Church has often feared what God Himself enabled: television, film, computers — and now artificial intelligence. Instead of discerning purpose, many rush to condemn. Yet Daniel foresaw this moment:
“Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.” — Daniel 12:4 (KJV)
That prophetic word means that in the last days, daʿath — knowledge, understanding, perception — would multiply. God is not surprised by technology; He ordained the expansion of knowledge. The real question is not whether these things are from the devil, but whether God’s people will use them wisely.
Hosea 4:6 warns, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” In a generation overflowing with information, the tragedy is not ignorance but willful laziness. Too many believers rely on emotion and opinion rather than research and discernment. We call things “evil” simply because we don’t understand them — yet the same tools can preach the Gospel to the ends of the earth.
Redeeming the Creative Realm
To reject knowledge is to resist the God who gives it. Proverbs 2:6 declares, “For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.” Every invention is neutral until it’s used; every tool can glorify God or magnify darkness.
The printing press once seemed dangerous — until it carried the Bible. Radio and television were “worldly” — until they broadcasted revival. Now, AI and digital media can either corrupt minds or proclaim truth. The devil doesn’t own creativity; he only hijacks it when we surrender it.
Summary
Only God creates. Satan corrupts. Humanity, made in God’s image, is called to cultivate what He made — not fear it. When knowledge increases, so must discernment. The Church’s role is not to condemn progress but to redeem it. For in the end, creation itself will testify: there is only one Creator, and His name is the Lord.
