Rescuing in psychology does not refer to the heroes who rescue people around our great nation. Rescuing in psychology is hurting people nicely. It happens when we do for others what they can do for themselves, and what is even more tragic is when we do not allow people to feel the heat of the consequences of their actions.
When we do for others what they can do for themselves, we promote laziness and immaturity. When we do not allow others to feel the heat of the consequences of their actions, we get in the way of the sowing and reaping law.
Rescuing starts at home. Many parents, in the name of love, rescue their children only to see them become lazy, entitled, irresponsible, selfish, and narcissistic adults. Rescuing is now systematic as many social workers, psychologists, therapists, and counselors use clinical language to rescue and continue to hurt people nicely. They become experts in explaining and justifying destructive behaviors and decisions while mocking accountability and consequences.
Rescuing is a way of life so strong that politicians use it as they also hurt us with an even bigger smile. Therefore, it promotes laziness and immaturity and shelters the criminals from feeling the heat of the consequences of their crimes. Case in Point… New York. Case in Point… California. These two states continue to hurt people nicely. Let the consequences of what is happening in these two states be evidence of the devastating consequences of rescuing.
