"Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roof." Matthew 10:27 (NIV)

The Prophetic Lens

I know that today we play with many titles. For example, I am a Life Coach, Interim Counselor, and Pastor. However, I am a Pastor… period! I don’t see life coaches in the Bible; however, what a Life Coach does is biblical. A Life Coach focuses on the future of others, their ultimate call, and utilizing their gifts to the maximum. We can say Jesus was a Life Coach; we can say that Paul, John, Peter, etc., were life coaches because they constantly encouraged folks to do God’s will in character and their gifts and callings.

I am not a businessman; I am not overwhelmed with building funds and maintenance, trying to sell my ministry to you or anybody else, manipulating people into coming to my church, giving money, and so on. Many good pastors are so busy and distracted with stuff that has nothing to do with their call.

I insist that I am a pastor, according to Hebrews 11:17, “Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this joyfully and not groaning, for that would be useless to you.” (ESV)

My job is to watch over people’s souls, that is: 1) their mindsets, 2) their decision-making patterns, and 3) their emotions.  A healthy mindset will lead to go decisions, and good choices will lead to good emotions. On the other hand, disturbed mindsets will lead to horrible decisions, and awful choices will lead to adverse emotions.

As a pastor, you try your best to lead people into wellness. At Wonderfully Med, First Thessalonians 5:23 is one of our critical inspirations in what we do, “May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (NIV) The human experience is complex; our wellness involves the spirit, soul, and body. If one area is sick, it will affect the whole being.

A couple of weeks ago, I was ministering to a young man who seemed serious about God. He confessed Christ as his Lord ad Savior. He is even going to a church with his girlfriend. However, there is a problem; he is fornicating with his girlfriend. So, I am not ready to declare that this man is saved; I am looking for the fruit. Where is the conviction of sin? I told him to repent for that fornication, stop fornicating, and get married as soon as possible, especially when he claimed he loved her and that she would like to get married.

I did not say these things in a judgmental way; I have fornicated myself; I know what it is like, but I also know the devastating consequences of this sin. I am monitoring this situation as a pastor, even though I am not his pastor. That’s what we do; we care for the condition of people’s souls.

I do believe in furthering my studies. That is why I am four classes away from completing my master’s, and that is why I finished the Life Coaching Certification; and that is why in July, I will add a Counselor’s Certification to my Resume. In addition, I plan to continue my studies to the doctoral level, but my success is not ultimately dependent on none of these studies; my success is found in the Lord, his anointing, and his presence in my life.

Now, I stated that I am a pastor, not a savior. Folks who inquired about my help must understand that this is not me doing the work for them; this is a partnership. I have work to do in that partnership, but they have work to do, also. When folks come to me for counseling or life coaching, they must be ready to work. If they are believers, they must know Hebrews 11:6, “And without faith, it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” (ESV) They must expect that God can change whatever situation they need help with. I understand if they don’t trust themselves or even doubt that I can help them, but they must believe that God is able and that nothing is impossible for Him.

On the other hand, when folks come to me, especially as believers, looking for me to do magic on them and fix everything for them, they are unwilling to do the work, cancel every other appointment, do not follow up with assignments, etc. So I am okay with ending my services.

If you are one of my disciples, actively involved in the ministry God has given me, I will minister to you at no cost. Ministry is done free of charge! However, Wonderfully Med is my wife, and I’s business; you must be willing to pay and invest in yourself as you invest in everything else.

I love to dedicate the rest of my career to Wonderfully Med; however, that is in God’s hands. My wife and I both work full-time jobs elsewhere. I am not desperate for clients; God will bring them, but I have a way of knowing who the suitable candidates are and who are not.

When you get your breakthrough from the bondage of the past and are on your way to walking in your purpose, you may not need me any longer; that is perfectly ok with me. I don’t need to find excuses to keep you coming so I can get more money from you; my goal is for you to be well. It blesses my soul when I get a client, and they get the breakthrough in weeks. They tell me they have been in therapy for so many years and are blown away that they are free after just a few sessions with me. I wish I could take the credit, but that is what happens when you allow God to come and fix what is broken in us. God bless you!
