Our Spirit
Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. First Thessalonians 5:23 (ESV)
As we continue with First Thessalonians 5:23 definition of key words, the spirit is the part of us that gives us life; that is, the breath of life that comes from God according to Genesis 2:7. Because of the breath of life we became a living soul. The spirit is the part of us that is born again (John 3). From the spirit we express our deepest expression of love: our worship according to John 4:24. The spirit is the part of us that is willing and able to do God’s will according to Matthew 26:40-43.
A spirit that is not in submission to God is a spirit filled with idolatry and a spirit who allows the soul to take dominion. Ever wonder why so many messages are focus on us and not on God. Many of these preachers are mere motivational speakers who cater to the soul, but not the spirit. They address financial prosperity, but not the prosperity of the soul. They address happiness, but never joy. They address a better us, without addressing the sin in us. And they talk about growth while ignoring maturity in Christ.
