Unmasking the Ancient Ways of Satan Part 2

“1Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.” (Matthew 4:1)

Satan will never repent; Satan will never change, Satan will never be restored and Satan will never be saved from the hell that is awaiting him. But one thing is for sure; Satan will bow down to God, just like everybody else. His knees will not be able to offer resistance to the power and authority of Jesus. In John 10:10 Jesus gives us Satan’s job description:

 

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy…”

Without a doubt, Satan has remained faithful to his call! As many of us doubt our call and find ourselves in many ups and down; Satan knows how to stay focused on what his job is.

Temptation is defined as; “to be scrutinized” The words scrutinize means, “to examine somebody or something closely and carefully.” In other words; temptation reflects what we are really made of. That is why it is extremely dangerous to release somebody into the fullness of ministry that has not been tested. We live in a world where our talents are shinning above our character. We step out because of our good talent, but as Satan unleashes his destructive strategy against us, many of us fall hard onto the floor of shame.

We can’t really know if something is what they say it is until it is being tested, scrutinized and weighed against all possibilities of wrong doing. The cars we buy must go through a testing process and as they are able to pass all of the required testing, then they are ready to be sold out in the market. Don’t confuse the waiting and the training with inactivity; I am not saying just sit back and wait! As you go and as you engage you are being prepared for more and greater things. It is important that you don’t try to go ahead of God, because you will never be able to do so. For the place that God is preparing many of us, we must make sure that we are equipped with the anointing and grace of God, every step of the way. Our natural abilities are worthless without the anointing and the backing of the Holy Ghost.

    Temptation is a mystery that is difficult to define and understand. There is an inclination inside each of us to do wrong because we are a fallen race. Often knowingly, sometimes unknowingly, we are inclined to do wrong by an inner urge. The Bible calls the source of this urge the flesh, or the old nature. We are in a lifelong battle to walk this earth and find peace.

    Ronald Rolheiser says, “Inside of us, it would seem, something is at odds with the very rhythm of things and we are forever restless, dissatisfied, frustrated, and aching. We are so overcharged with desire that it is hard to come to simple rest. Desire is always stronger than satisfaction,” but God knows what we are going through. As James 12-15 expresses it, “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.” The passage continues, “When tempted, no one should say, ‘God is tempting me.’ For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own desires, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death” (vv. 13-15). So God does not tempt people. Temptation is born in the human heart.

    Yet temptation itself is not sin but rather the enticement that we feel toward sin. When we give in to the evil to which we are attracted, when we follow through on its appeal that is when it becomes sin.

    So, is all lost? Is it all for naught? No! Surprisingly, temptation can have a very positive effect. It can build character because it tests us. When we resist the temptation to do what God forbids, we are saying to God, “I’d sure love to do this. It is very appealing, very attractive, but you said no. Therefore, I won’t do it, because I love you.” God rejoices in this response; in fact, he is so excited about it that, in the words of James, he gives us “the crown of life.” I believe that the crown of life is not merely enjoying eternity in a complete way. It is something we enjoy here on earth every time we overcome temptation with the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit. It is the sense of conquest, the sense of really living, because when we succumb to temptation we enter into the sphere of death. We are in the dark, the death area. But when we overcome temptation, out of love to the Lord, we are living in the light in the fullest sense.
