The Prophetic Lens

These past few days I have been meditating on the fact that God gave the children of Israel the Promise Land. They had His promises, His approval, His blessing, His power and everything needed to conquer this great land. However, some of these tribes never did conquer the portion of their land. Do you know why? It is because their fears of the giants were greater than their trust in God. The giants were enormous, powerful, intimidating, supernaturally intelligent and evil in all of their ways; but they were no match for the power of God, not even close! What giant are you facing today; no money, children acting crazy, going through a divorce, facing strongholds in your life, etc? The Lord is telling you today:

“Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them. 7 Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. 8 Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:6-9)

When we are strong and courageous we hold fast to our confession of Jesus Christ, we face the uncertainties of the future with hope, not despair; realistic, but not pessimistic; disturbed, but not angered! Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 4:8-11: “We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; {9} persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; {10} always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be made visible in our bodies. {11} For while we live, we are always being given up to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus may be made visible in our mortal flesh.”

Paul then writes in 2 Corinthians 9:13 (NRSV) “Through the testing of this ministry you glorify God by your obedience to the confession of the gospel of Christ and by the generosity of your sharing with them and with all others.” This means when we have the ability to confess Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, our present trials are overshadowed
by the hope we have in Jesus Christ, and that the Kingdom in which we live is only a shadow of the kingdom that is to come. So while we are here, our calling is to see the Kingdom of God, come on earth as it is in Heaven.
